Frequently asked Questions
What should we expect?
A School Expedition is 90 minutes long, and consists of three parts. The first 10 minutes of the Expedition is an introduction to the museum. Next, the docent will lead your group on a sixty-minute tour of four galleries. This will include time to browse in the galleries. The last portion is a docent-led tomb tour. Students need to stay with their chaperones at all times. If your group would like to shop, they may do so during the 30 minutes immediately following their expedition. Groups may not shop before their expeditions or at anytime outside of their scheduled shopping time.
How long are School Expeditions?
Each School Expedition is about 90 minutes long. If students would like to shop, they may do so during the 30 minutes immediately following their Expedition.
How many chaperones should I bring?
The museum requires a minimum of one chaperone for every seven students. Chaperones are responsible for their students’ behavior and safety and must remain with their assigned students at all times. To facilitate this, we ask that all cell phones are turned off.
What happens if I need to change the date of my Expedition?
The museum does not allow for any rescheduling once a reservation has been made. Rescheduling will not be allowed for any reason, including, but not limited to, group lateness, busing issues, groups that do not show up on their scheduled day and time, or date conflicts. Please be sure of your date before booking. Check your school calendar for all upcoming holidays, in-services, state testing, etc.
Are School Expeditions refundable?
No. School Expeditions are non-refundable. Prepayments for more tickets than were used on the day of the visit may not be refunded or transferred. Refunds will not be issued for any reason, including, but not limited to, the over purchase of tickets, group lateness, busing issues, groups that do not show up on their scheduled day and time, or date conflicts. Be 100% sure of your date and time before booking.
Can my group shop in the museum store?
If your group would like to shop, you may do so during the 30 minutes immediately following your Expedition. Groups may not shop before their expeditions or at anytime outside of their scheduled shopping time. Only 10 students are allowed in the store at a time. They must be accompanied by a chaperone at all times.
Can we re-enter the museum after our School Expedition and look around the galleries more?
Groups may re-enter the museum after 2:00 p.m. on the same day. Groups must still have the required ratio of chaperones to students. Groups must divide up so no one group is larger than 10 while in the museum.
Can we see the Planetarium show as well?
If your group would like to attend the Rosicrucian Planetarium show, you are welcome to do so. The Planetarium show is presented at 2:00 p.m. every day, and additionally at 3:30 p.m. on weekends. Tickets are free and available at the museum’s front desk on a first come, first served basis. Tickets may not be reserved in advance. Only 98 seats are available. The show, The Mithraic Mysteries, is recommended for ages 10 and above.
Can we eat at the museum?
The museum does not have a cafeteria or any restaurants. Groups are welcome to picnic on the grounds of Rosicrucian Park. However, groups may not eat inside the Peace Garden or enter the Akhnaten Shrine. Backpacks, lunches, food, and drinks are not allowed in the museum. If you choose to bring sack lunches or backpacks, please be sure that they are stored either on your bus or in your vehicles before the beginning of your Expedition. The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and Planetarium does not have any facilities to store these items and is not responsible for them.
